(((MUZIK))) WHY I ♥ AQUA

(((MUZIK))) Transcript from Music Editor Alex Kazemi’s nostalgic piece about Aqua.

Admit it. You’ve sung along to THAT song about Barbie Girl at one point or another, right? Of course you have! Aqua were amazing! SUPERSUPER’s Alex Kazemi confesses his undying love for everyone’s favorite ’90s saccharine-pop quartet.

A non-stop celebration of junk food, bright colours and perfect, simplistic pop music - it’s easy to see why 1999 was a great year for the pop universe…

Spice Girls, *NSYNC, Britney - oh yeah, and that group that sang ‘Barbie Girl’! In retrospect, it’s safe to say that those sceptics who referred to them as “one-hit wonders” in the late ‘90s were sadly mistaken…

Aqua were constantly shelling out contagious sexual innuendos through their brilliant use of hooks, choruses and dance-induced wisdom. The Scandinavian popsters were expert chemists when it came to creating infectious bubblegum pop songs – their formulas consisting of witty lyrical ingredients such as comic book heroines and bumblebees infused with alluring Europop beats. The icing on the cake, of course, was vocalist Lene Nystrom’s helium induced voice. Alongside her masculine duplicate Rene Dif., songs like ‘Doctor Jones’ and ‘Lollipop (Candyman)’ will always be able to lure you into a sugar-sweet trance, taking your mind away from the everyday to a different land, where mermaids and fairies exist..

<3 Aqua will live forever †
